It was 9 PM on a Sunday, and my five-year-old was crying with a toothache that seemed to come out of nowhere.
I did what any parent would do. I started frantically Googling: “emergency pediatric dentist near me in Astoria.” One website was down. Another had a phone number that was disconnected. A third listed a dentist who, I later found out, hadn’t accepted my insurance in over a year. I felt completely helpless and alone, my frustration growing with every dead end.
That was the night the idea for this website was born.
I started talking to other parents in my neighborhood, in the park, in local Queens parenting groups.
And I realized I wasn’t the only one. Everyone had a story. A desperate search for a dentist who spoke Spanish in Jackson Heights.
A confusing maze of insurance paperwork in Jamaica. The struggle to find a sensory-friendly office for a child with special needs in Forest Hills. It was a total mess.
We all wanted the same thing: just one place—one single, trustworthy website—that could tell us who was nearby, who took our insurance, and who was actually great with kids.
So, I decided to build it myself.
This website isn’t a faceless corporation. It was started by a small group of Queens parents, researchers, and community advocates who were tired of the struggle. It’s built on a few simple, common-sense ideas that I promise to stick to.
First, this resource will always be for our community. My only rule for any decision I make is, “Will this genuinely help a family in Queens?”
That’s it. This is your resource, and your feedback is what helps it grow and get better.
Second, I believe in being totally transparent about how we pay our bills. You’ll see some links to products, like toothbrushes or teething toys, in our review articles.
Many of these are “affiliate links.” It just means that if you click one and buy something, a company like Amazon sends us a small commission.
I need to be crystal clear about this: it costs you absolutely nothing extra. It’s just a way to support our work that allows us to pay for web hosting and our small team of local parent-researchers.
I will never recommend a product I don’t believe in just to make a buck. My trust with you—my neighbors—is everything.
Finally, I believe an informed parent is an empowered one. A dental visit can be intimidating, for kids and for us! My goal with our articles is to demystify it all.
To break down the complex topics into simple, actionable advice so you can feel confident when you’re making decisions for your child.
That’s our story. This website is a love letter to our home borough.
It’s our pledge to you to provide a service that is authentic, helpful, and trustworthy.
Thank you for being here. Thank you for trusting us. We’re honored to be a small part of your family’s health journey.
